Demolition on the Main Drag - Howard Johnson Hotel
Over the years demolition has become a vital step to make way for future development. One of our most notable demo contracts recently was a large hotel with waterpark near Lancaster City.
The Howard Johnson Hotel in Lancaster, PA was roughly a four acre site with approximately 65,000 square feet under roof, divided among multiple buildings with several floors, an indoor water park with a below grade pump room and storage, and several swimming pools. Our client hired us to demolish the hotel down to its foundations and floor slabs in preparation for future development. This was a high-profile project that generated significant local traffic and involved multiple authorities. We needed to conduct the operation quietly and efficiently to minimize disruption for nearby residents and businesses.
We obtained the demolition permit for the customer, and began by securing the utilities, installing erosion control devices, and performing asbestos abatement. The demolition waste was then transported to the local landfill, while recyclables and hazardous materials were handled appropriately, and scrap metal was salvaged to help reduce costs for the client. Throughout the project, we implemented dust control measures and maintained the site’s cleanliness. Finally, we used a mobile crusher to reduce the piles of concrete and block into reusable crushed concrete.
Demolition in the Borough - The Denver Inn
We love to be involved in the exciting change for the better in our community. In 2018 the Greencoast team was honored to contract the demolition of one of the most blighted buildings in the center of our home town in Denver, PA. The building was tied to it's neighboring structure and required skillfull techniques to mitigate risk during demolition. With minimal space to work, our men made short work of the gutted structure and prepared portions of the foundations for the new building. Rock was encountered and dealt with appropriately for the new portions of below grade occupiable space. Today Real Life Community Services runs several thriving community uplifting programs, and a food pantry at this new site for hope and bright futures for many! The beautiful new building is called the Decleration House.
Demolition in the Borough - Adamstown VFW
Greencoast again tackled a challenging Selective Demo in town with minimal room to work and other nearby structures. Portions of this building were proteceted and salvaged as part of the new building which is today the brand new Adamstown Library.
